British Empire. The decline of the old colonial empires

Abstract
The end of World War II, far from bringing peace and prosperity to Britain, opened a turbulent period within the history of the country. Internally, the charismatic Churchill was replaced by the pragmatic Clement Atlee on whom the weight of the post-war economic recovery and the launch of the Welfare State fell. Abroad, the decomposition of the once powerful British Empire, which in some cases did not know and in others could not manage the complex questions that arose in its Asian and African colonies, was irremissibly accelerated.
