Abstract

The purpose of this article is to recover the gaze of the frontier natives who participated in the civil wars of Chilean Independence under the flags of the king. The southern Araucanians fought with courage together with the Royal Army against the independentists from the north for years in various scenarios. They made the south a theater of operations faithful to the monarch, a focus of resistance and offensive for the king's cause on the distant Chilean border. Forgotten protagonists of Spanish America necessary to understand and reinterpret a process of such past and present Hispanic transcendence on the occasion of the Bicentennials.
