Resistance on the Roof of the World:

Tibetan guerrilla warfare (1956-1974)

Abstract

In 1950, the People’s Republic of China leaped on Tibet, beginning a new period in the history of this remote and isolated Asian region. The military occupation of its eastern area forced Lhasa to negotiate a group of resolutions imposed by the Chinese that were settled on the Seventeen Points Agreement, signed in 1951. By virtue of it, Tibet was left in a position of absolute subordination with respect to Beijing still in force nowadays. This mandatory colonisation aroused a deep unease in the Tibetan national consciousness that, in military terms, crystallised in a guerrilla warfare promoted by the CIA, the Chusi Gangdrug.
