Portuguese colonialism and neoextractivism in Brazil: an analogy of colonial continuity
Abstract
This article analyzes how the Portuguese colonial-capitalist model has been perpetuated through (neo)extractivism in Brazil, exploring extractive practices within the logic of coloniality. The theoretical proposal encompasses the connection with territory and the worldview of decolonial and feminist epistemologies, paying particular attention to the «body-territory» binomial. Through a critical analysis of the historiography of the colonization process in Brazil, the paper links how the domination of territories is transferred to the body and nature in the form of (neo)extractivism, demonstrating that such practices serve the «illusion of development» expanded in Latin America. Throughout this article, it is intended to strengthen an eco-sustainable, decolonial and feminist epistemological exchange, in dialogue with Indigenous and Afro-descendant populations, to imagine a less dystopian near future through which to resist and coexist.
