Service-Learning in the Degree of Business Administration and Management: Opportunities for Teaching Taxation

Abstract

This work aims to present the Service-Learning project 'Taxation and Social Commitment to Disability' focused on providing tax advice to people with disabilities and their surroundings. The project has been developed in the Business Administration and Management degree at Rey Juan Carlos University in collaboration with the Fuenlabrada City Council since the 2021/22 academic year. Students from the Business Tax Regime course at the Fuenlabrada campus have participated in various activities related to training and disseminating information about tax aids for disabilities and have provided tax advice to associations with the purpose of actively contributing to the reduction of inequalities and social inclusion. Surveys have shown that doing tasks outside the classroom to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the course and understanding the problems faced by people with disabilities has positive effects on the students' education. It has also been found that those who participated in this project had a greater commitment to their learning, and the dissemination work they carried out also strengthened the tax éticae of their peers.
