Abstract

The April 2022 elections in Hungary represent a continuity in the reactionary policies of FIDESZ and Viktor Orbán in a dynamic of «authoritarian turn» in Europe, highlighting xenophobic and exclusionary policies. The border and its limits are issues that are fundamental to understand Europe and, therefore, the management of immigration and asylum, chaining and shaping the Hungarian anti-immigration discourse of the last decade. Thus, this paper analyzes the political link between Christianity and Islam in the construction and constitution of the imaginary and xenophobic public policies of the government of Viktor Orban, characterized by a rising far-right populism on the continent that focuses on a common enemy shaped by otherness: the «Other» Muslim. In this sense, it is proposed that the defense of Christian values is part of the project identity that legitimizes the authoritarian model of Orban.
