Abstract
The conquest and colonization of America is the setting that serves as a breeding ground for the Salamanca School to deliver (to all of humanity) a monumental work on human rights, outstanding for its contributions to an individual’s civil and political rights, which are known today as the first generation of human rights. Therefore, this study allows us to glimpse that the century of enlightenment wasn’t the vital determinant for the emergence and realization of such rights. The proposed methodology - hermeneutical understanding - has allowed us to select, order and link together the doctrine that appears scattered in these distinguished humanists, in such a way that, without a doubt, their contributions to the subject are shown.
