Abstract

In this article, the importance of the Internet is highlighted as a historical milestone comparable to the invention of the printing press because it has transformed communication and access to knowledge. It is argued that, just as the printing press emerged in a suitable social and cultural context for expansion, the Internet has spread under ideal conditions of globalization and the dissolution of cultural boundaries. In this sense, this work maintains the idea that philosophy must adapt to these new forms of communication and dissemination and be accessible online, turning the Internet into one of the best auditoriums for philosophical dialogue. The article is structured in three parts: first, the thought of William James on the research community is presented, from which the main idea of this work arises; second, examples of online philosophy are explored, highlighting the Peircean Studies Group and the PLEXUS research project; and finally, questions are raised to promote the accessibility and rigor of philosophy in the digital age.
