Bolívar, Mina, and their Libertarian Meeting in Haiti, 1816
Abstract
After the Independence of Haiti, its president Alexandre Pétion supported liberating expeditions of the American kingdoms. In particular, by July 1816, Simón Bolívar was in Port-au-Prince recovering from a setback in Venezuela, when he received a letter from Xavier Mina, the young Navarrese guerrilla, who invited him to be part of an expedition to liberate New Spain. The exchange of letters would culminate in a meeting full of expectations in Haiti, in October 1816, and its result would seal the future of Bolívar and Mina, and that of the processes of Independence of Mexico and VenezuelaReferences
