Guide for authors

Orden Internacional is a annual digital journal that publishes articles and research papers on all areas of geopolitics from a cross-disciplinary perspective, approached from disciplines such as politics, sociology, history, international relations and current affairs analysis.

Format
Articles should be between 6000 and 9000 words in length (including graphs, notes, tables, maps and bibliography). Texts should be written in Garamond font size 12 (notes size 10), 1.5 line spacing, indentation on the first line 1.25 cm and 2.5 cm margins.

Presentation of papers
Each original will be preceded by a heading with postal and e-mail addresses, telephone number and affiliation centre, if applicable.

The abstracts of the article will be in Spanish and English (100 words maximum each), accompanied by five key words and keywords, also in both languages.
The official languages of the journal will be Spanish and English.

The originals must be unpublished and may not be under simultaneous consideration by other journals for publication.

If divisional headings are necessary, they should be written in bold and unnumbered, leaving double spacing with respect to the paragraph before and after. In the case of subtitles, these should be in bold, unnumbered and in italics.

Evaluation and selection

Orden Internacional establishes a double-blind peer review process. Authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the process. Although there are some external reviewers who regularly collaborate with the journal, their identity remains hidden. The evaluation process begins with the manuscript being sent to the editorial team electronically in pdf or word format. Once received, the text is anonymised to eliminate any kind of identity of the author and is sent to two specialists for evaluation, who may be external collaborating reviewers or experts contacted for this purpose. Together with the text, a model report is provided, which the evaluator must duly complete and return to the editorial office within an estimated period of time. With a favourable report in both cases, publication will take place within one year. With an unfavourable report, the article is returned to the author for corrections or discarded from publication.

Orden Internacional reserves the right to decide whether or not to publish the article, subject to external peer review. The final decision will be communicated to the author and, if negative, the material will be destroyed.

Style criteria
References will be included in the text following the HARVARD citation system. By way of example, some of the most common uses are given below:

In the text, if the author is not cited directly in the text, the author's surname(s), the year of publication and the page(s) cited will be included in parentheses. If the author is cited directly in the text, only the year and pages are included in parentheses. For example: ‘(Del Boca, 2000: 15)’ or ‘according to Angelo Del Boca (2000:15)’. If the book has been used to present an idea or you want to refer to it in a generic way, instead of making a textual citation, you should write the author's surname and the year of publication, without the need to indicate the page number. For example: ‘(Del Boca, 2000)’.

However, it is also possible to make footnotes duly indicated with a number. For example, ‘according to Del Boca's approach’, with the footnote being size 10.

A bibliographic list should be included at the end of the article and should follow the following criteria:

They shall be arranged in alphabetical order.
Works by the same author should be listed in chronological order.
If more than one work published in the same year by the same author is mentioned, a lower case letter will indicate the order, also valid for the text (‘2000a’, ‘2000b’, ‘2000c’, etc.).

References at the end of the text must comply with the following criteria:

Single-author book: Surname/s, First name, Title of the book. Place, publisher, year, page/s.
Book by several authors (up to three): Surname/s, First name; Surname/s, First name and Surname/s, First name, Title of the book. Place, publisher, year, page/s.
Book by several authors (more than three): Surname/s, First name and surname, Title of the book. Place, publisher, year, page/s.
Volume: Surname/s, First name, Title of the book. Volume: Title of the volume. Place, [publisher,] year, page(s).
Chapter of the book: Surname/s, First name, ‘Title of the chapter’, in [Surname/s (ed.)], Title of the book. Place, publisher, year, page/s.
Edition of the collective work: Surname/s, First name/s (ed.), Title of the book. Place, publisher, year, page/s.
Institutional edition: Organisation, Title of the book. Place, publisher, year, page/s.
Journal article: Surname(s), First name, ‘Title’, Name of the journal, volume, page(s).
Press: Name of newspaper, day month year, [page/s].
Document: FILE, Section, Series, Box or file number, Date. ‘Title of document’, page(s).

Authors' names should always be in lower case, except in the case of initials. For example: Del Boca, A., The Ethiopian War (1936-1941). Chicago, University, 1969 in the final reference and (Del Boca) in the text.

Abbreviations id., ibid., op. cit. and other Latin abbreviations should only be capitalised if they appear at the beginning of the note; they should be written in normal text, without italics and never underlined. Titles of books and journals, as well as words in a language other than that of the text, should be written in italics.

In references, p. or pp. should not be written before page numbers, which should be written after the comma.

If acronyms are used, they should be used without a full stop and the first time they appear in the text they should be named in full, adding in brackets ( hereinafter...) e.g. The United Nations Organisation (hereinafter UN), and the rest of the time: UN.

Low inverted commas (' “) should be used instead of high inverted commas (” ’).

Dates should not use abbreviations or syncopated forms (e.g. 15-Dec-1960). Both in the text and in footnotes they should be written in full (15 December 1960).

Reviews and bibliographical essays

The journal Orden Internacional will accept reviews and bibliographic essays according to the following guidelines:

-Concentrate on a recommended space between 500 and 3000 words.

-To cover collective or individual books, monographs, monographs, monographs, high divulgation and essays that are related to the field of history, geopolitics, strategy, International Relations or international politics.

-The same rules of style and form as for articles should be followed.

Copyright

The authorship of the text or article belongs in any case to the author. Orden Internacional reserves the right to keep the publication agreed with the author published on the magazine's website, but the rights remain solely with the author.

Privacy statement

The names and e-mail addresses entered in this magazine will be used exclusively for the purposes stated in this magazine and will not be given to third parties or used for other purposes.
