Aims and scope

Ciudad Esmeralda. Revista de Estudios sobre Literatura Infantil y Juvenil is an interdisciplinary journal created with the aim of becoming a national and international benchmark for children's and young adult literature in its many forms and media (novels, plays, poetry, comics, illustrated albums, etc.) and its teaching, as well as other related and interrelated areas. In this sense, the project has a strong interdisciplinary character and its areas of scope involve the intersection or non-intersection of different branches of the humanities and social sciences: teaching, philology, psychology, and literary theory. The works received are expected to reflect on comparative dialogue, including theoretical or problematic considerations, case studies, etc. In any case, the aim is to vindicate the value of children's and young adult literature in its many forms and formats, in the process of individual formation and, therefore, as a focus of interest for teachers and researchers.

As an example of the University's commitment to free culture and knowledge and open science, Ciudad Esmeralda. Revista de Estudios sobre Literatura Infantil y Juvenil will be an open-access publication with creative commons licences, so that the scientific community, students and the general public can benefit from its contributions.

Ciudad Esmeralda publishes works in Spanish and English.

Reviews must correspond to books in the field published within the last five years.

Each issue of Ciudad Esmeralda will adhere to the following proportions:

1. Research articles will constitute at least 80% of the published material.
2. Non-academic documents will not exceed 20% of the published material.

Among the research articles:

1. International research articles (written by researchers not based in Spanish centres) will constitute at least 50% of the total.
2. Research articles authored by researchers from Rey Juan Carlos University shall not exceed 20% of all articles.
3. Research articles authored by members of the Editorial Board or Advisory Board shall not exceed 20% of all articles.
4. Research articles authored by women shall constitute at least 40% of all articles.
