Anna-Marie Ferguson and the Hero’s Journey in Legend: The Arthurian Tarot

Abstract

Tarot has served for centuries as a means of understanding the paths of life. Beyond its oracular use, the meaning of each card aligns with what various authors have described as one of humanity’s great archetypes: the hero’s journey -a process of transformation that culminates in the perfect union of the self. The deck created by artist Anna-Marie Ferguson, Legend: the Arthurian Tarot establishes correspondences between the Arthurian legends and the messages of the Major and Minor Arcana, allowing for a profound understanding of tarot as a model of the heroic journey.
