Equality and diversity

CONCEPTUAL DEFINITION

Gender equality: can encompass aspects of gender, class, race, etc. "When we use the term “gender”, we refer to identities (male, female, non-binary, etc.) and constructed social roles.

Sexual diversity: focuses on sexual orientation (heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, etc.). Although ‘sexual diversity’ is often interpreted within LGTBIQ+ issues, ‘gender’ as an analytical and political category is not the same thing.

Ethnic-cultural diversity: refers to the plurality of cultures, nationalities, ethnicities, etc.
Neomedieval upholds the United Nations principles of equal opportunities and respect between men, women, and non-binary persons, publishing scientific works without distinction of gender. It also recognises sexual diversity and different races and cultures. The use of inclusive language is recommended in submitted works, although we leave it up to the authors to choose which variant of inclusive language to use. However, under no circumstances will any publication that uses discriminatory, abusive or exclusionary language on the basis of gender be accepted.

To implement these equality policies, we carry out the following specific actions:

1. Creating a more equitable publication for men, women, and non-binary people, based on the principles established by the URJC Equality Unit, created in 2010 to comply with Organic Law 3/2007 of March 22. 2. Maintaining a balance of at least 40% women in the percentage of women and men who make up the Governing Board, Guest Editors, Editorial Board, and Advisory Board.

3. Creating a more diverse and inclusive publication; therefore, URJC belongs to the Network of Universities for Diversity and has created a unit for sexual and ethnic-cultural diversity.

4. We maintain a minimum of 40% female reviewers for submissions to the journal.

5. We use inclusive language in all communications with authors of scientific articles and request that they do the same.

6. The journal must include the full name of all authors in every published work.

7. Since its inception, Neomedieval has requested that authors inform and indicate in their research results whether the data used considers the sex of the subjects, in order to identify any significant differences.
