Neomedieval understands scientific research as a public service that should never be commercialized. The journal advocates for a completely open dissemination model in which the results obtained from research funded by universities, research centers, and the rest of the scientific system are accessible to the entire community. In this way, Neomedieval explicitly aligns itself against the practices of academic capitalism that are increasingly poisoning the ecosystem of scientific publishing and turning the dissemination of research paid for with public money into economic benefits for large scientific publishing companies—a practice detrimental to the scientific system, which is subjected to commodification.

Since, as we understand it, the scientific publications of public universities have a crucial role to play in restoring scientific dissemination as a public service, Neomedieval advocates for a model of production, dissemination, and reading that conceives of scientific research as a common good, universally accessible and deserving of protection and promotion. We believe this best exemplifies our commitment to research and the body of knowledge produced by public universities.
