Otherness and doubt face to face with reality: R. A. Salvatore and his building of the character of Drizzt Do’Urden
Abstract
The medieval past is an important source of inspiration for contemporary narrative. Through our eyes, the Middle Ages are modified and re-constructed to adapt to new narratives that bring them up to date while modifying what we understand about them. The fantasy genre is an ideal space for this reinterpretation. And it is precisely in this space where this work is framed, in which the aim is to study the role of otherness and the clash with the community in the work of R.A. Salvatore, through one of the best-known characters in the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing world: Drizzt Do’Urden.References
